A zero-downtime deployment service for PHP. Each deploy is cloned into a new release directory, dependencies installed, and the current symlink moved only at the end, on one server or many. Forge now does this for one server.

Forge's zero-downtime deployments use the same releases and symlink, one server per site. Envoy runs your own deploy tasks over SSH from a Blade file. Cloud has no server to deploy to. Envoyer's distinction is one project activated across several servers in the same deployment.

Parts
1 Push. With Deploy When Code Is Pushed on, a webhook on the chosen branch starts a deployment.
2 Clone new release. A tarball of the commit is unpacked into releases/<YmdHis> beside the release still live.
3 Install dependencies. composer install runs inside the new release, if the project is configured for it.
4 Activate. The current symlink is pointed at the new release. Until this step, nothing has changed for visitors.
5 Shared storage. The storage directory sits at the project root and is linked into each release, so uploads persist.
6 Health check. After activation, New York, London and Singapore request the URL and expect a 2xx back.
Hidden joinery
Four hooks are fixed and cannot be reordered: clone, install, activate, purge; custom hooks go before or after each, on chosen servers. Any hook exiting non-zero cancels the deployment. How many releases survive the purge is a project setting. Deploys time out at 10 minutes, 15 on Premium. Health checks come from three fixed IPs.
