ENTRY II.41 · AGENT CONTEXT
Boost
Laravel\Boost · Package · first recorded 13 August 2025, v1.0.0 on Packagist
Context for a coding agent, generated from the app: an MCP server the agent runs over artisan, guideline files assembled for the packages installed, and skills loaded on demand. The agent reads your app instead of guessing at it.
Specification
Kind Dev dependency: a local MCP server over stdio plus generated files
Interface MCP over stdio, php artisan boost:mcp; ten tools including search-docs
Client Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Copilot, Junie, OpenCode and others
Installed by composer require laravel/boost --dev · boost:install
Voice boost:install · boost:update · boost:mcp
Scales by Guidelines per installed package; a hosted docs API of 17,000+ entries
Range Cloud: dev only; the server runs beside the agent, not on Cloud
Forge, VPS: dev only, the same; nothing is deployed
Vapor: dev only, the same
Neighbours
Laravel MCP is the package Boost is built on, for giving your own app an MCP server. The AI SDK puts agents inside the app; Boost serves the agent writing it. PAO trims test and tool output for agents. Boost's distinction is reading the app: schema, logs and installed versions.

Parts
1 Coding agent. Claude Code, Cursor or another client. It starts Boost over stdio as an MCP server and reads the guidelines first.
2 Guidelines, loaded up front. CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md, assembled by boost:install from the packages found in composer.json.
3 Skills, loaded on demand. livewire-development, pest-testing and the rest, written to each agent's skills folder.
4 boost:mcp. The MCP server, a PHP process inside your app: database schema and queries, log entries, last error, search-docs.
5 Your app, and its database. Versions, models, schema and logs, read by the tools rather than guessed from the file tree.
6 Project rules. .ai/rules, written by the agent through record-rule, committed and shared, indexed by file glob.
Hidden joinery
Guidelines load only for packages actually in use. A rule recorded by record-rule regenerates .ai/rules/index.md, and agents read the index before touching a file, so a rule costs nothing until it applies. boost:update --discover offers guidelines for newly installed packages; BOOST_RULES_ENABLED=false removes the tool.
